Moses Basket Bedding

I finally finished it - a cover for the Moses basket that I used to sleep in when I was little. What I thought would be a easy task did not end up being so easy. After 3 trips to the fabric store - I am finally finished. Take home message - I really need to have a pattern or take the time to think through the process before I start. Too bad I am so impatient! In the end, I really love it. The bumper piece is reversible and then I made two coordinating little blankets to sit on top of the mattress. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do and more importantly lets hope baby M enjoys it too!

Progress....

Mom and Dad Meendering came down to Omaha a few weeks ago to help us paint the upstairs. After two full days of blood, sweat, and tears (literally I can remember each one) we have a fully painted upstairs. It is really staring to feel like a room and we ended up really happy with our paint choices!

Neadless to say I did my best to be helpful, but bending down to paint trim is not as easy as it looks when you are 6 months pregnant! Plus, I looked extra hot because jon insisted that I wear this mega respirator to keep the paint fumes away from baby M. I was semi-helpful but the real bulk of the work was completed by Jon, Randy and Sue. Thanks again to Mom and Dad Meendering and all of your hard work!

We will post more pictures of the upstairs when it is officially finished (we are hoping by March 1) after everything is installed and the shower is tiled. The picture of our newly painted stairs leading up to the upstairs will be a teaser for now. Please keep your fingers crossed that we can keep working at this pace! We need to get it all completed before baby M arrives!

Moses Basket

This is the Moses basket I used to sleep in when I was little. Since then my sisters have used it for their kids, and Jon and I feel lucky to have it now for baby M. I have been wanting to make a washable cover for the Moses basket and have been doing a little research on line to find examples that I like. I don't have a pattern to use, but I think I have come up with a gamplan on how to create this cover. I picked out a few cute coordinating green and yellow print fabrics to use and started cutting out the pieces. Neadless to say, I am not the best planner with fabric cutting - and ended up running out of one of the fabrics. So - it will be back to the fabric store for me sometime this week. I will post pictures of the project when it is complete. If you have any good ideas or links to cute covers/liners let me know!

Rocking Chair

Jon's Grandma got him this rocking chair when he was little boy and we are so excited that Jon's parents saved it and we can now pass it on to baby M. I want to recover the little seat cushion - so this is one of the projects on my baby crafting to do list. I found fabric the other day, I am just trying to decide the best way to go about it. The cover on it right now was definately handmade - it is make like a pillowcase with the back seam hand stitched. Is this the best way to go about recovering it? Any ideas?

Starting to Nest

It is official, the whole pregnant woman like to nest theory is in full force around our house. I feel the need to clean and organize everything, which is a bit stressful because our house is in full renovation mode upstairs and new windows are going in as we speak in the kitchen. We moved our futon and desk out of the yellow room and into the basement so that we could set up Baby M's crib. The room still needs a lot of work (we want to find a rug, something to hang on the walls, etc) but the crib looks super cute and is fun to see each day as a reminder that Baby M will be here in 3 months! I had high hopes of making the crib bedding - but I have so many handmade projects on my list for baby M that when I saw this bedding that matched the paint in the yellow room Jon and I jumped on it. Don't tell Baby M, but we really didn't want to have to repaint that room - so it worked out great.
